Edging beds
The intersection of planting beds and grass areas is what makes your landscape pop. Landscape borders can be a soft edge cut with a shovel, or a hard edge with stone or concrete. No matter the technique, this is what makes your plantings stand out.
For a soft edge, edging tools and flat shovels are used to create a sharp edge in grass surfaces. This prevents lawn grass from creeping into garden beds while making a neat edge that looks neatly tended to. We cut an edge in the lawn two or three inches deep wit edging tools. Then we scrape back the existing bed with a flat shovel. This edge catches mulch or stone that might roll down the bed and fall into the adjoining surface. Grass or sidewalk surfaces can be edged to keep plant dressing products where they belong.
Granite cobbles are also a great option for a natural looking edging for grass or paved surfaces. Cobbles can be borders between grass and mulch, grass and paved surfaces, or mulch and stone. Cobbles are available in different sizes but all sizes can accommodate curves and corners without cutting.
Straight granite, concrete, or metal edging provide a more modern industrial look and work better with linear designs. Granite edging ties in well with granite steps, can have better holding power with more surface area buried and doesn’t rust. Concrete edging is available in different shapes and colors and can be cut to shape easier than granite. Metal edging is very inexpensive and easy to shape but can stain stone and concrete.
